Lexington, KY - The 46th High Hope Steeplechase, set for Sunday, May 19, has been canceled by the event's board of directors in a decision Friday afternoon.
The day-long annual event at the Kentucky Horse Park includes terrier races and other events leading up to a steeplechase.
According to an email from Carrie Gilbert, of the High Hope board, "there were many factors that went into such a late and hard decision but the main being lack of entries into the races. The High Hope wanted to be able to offer the same traditional level of racing and family day events but felt it couldn't give the patrons the day without high class racing," the email stated.
Gilbert added the board hoped to have the races back going next year.
