Lexington, KY - A Thursday afternoon meeting was held between the Gray administration and staff from the University of Kentucky in regards to the on-going plans by the city to renovate Rupp Arena and the city's convention facilities.
"The meeting this afternoon was positive and we look forward to continuing the conversation," Mayor Jim Gray's spokeswoman Susan Straub said in an emailed statement. No other information was released by the mayor's office.
UK President Dr. Eli Capillouto's spokesman Jay Blanton declined to comment on the meeting.
The meeting was prompted after an exchange of letters from Capilouto and the board of the Lexington Center Corporation which oversees Rupp Arena, the convention center and other facilities for the City of Lexington.
In a letter responding to the board's request to know where the university stood on the planned $300-plus million overhaul of the Lexington Center complex last month, Capilouto lambasted the city's plans for financing the proposed plan and left the door open for the university to construct its own arena on campus as the clock ticks on the final few years of the school's lease on the downtown arena for men's basketball games.
