New Whitaker Family YMCA to open in Hamburg in October
The YMCA of Central Kentucky has announced that its new facility in Hamburg will be named the Whitaker Family YMCA.
The new location, which is scheduled to open in late October, is named in recognition of the Whitaker family’s significant donation in support of multiple YMCA capital improvements in recent years. In addition, the Whitaker Bank Scholarship Fund has been planned to provide scholarships to participants in YMCA programs based on financial need.
The 62,000-square-foot Whitaker Family YMCA will be located on Old Rosebud Road in Hamburg. Amenities at the new location will include a 10,000-square-foot wellness center, a youth development wing, an aquatic complex, three studios for group exercise classes, a multi-functional wellness area, full-size gymnasium and a three-lane walking/running track.
In 2015, Whitaker Bank financed a portion of the YMCA of Central Kentucky’s planned $36.7 million in capital improvements. The capital projects have included the new facility in Hamburg, an expansion at the North Lexington YMCA, redevelopment of the Downtown YMCA on High Street and renovations at the Carol Martin Gatton Beaumont facility.
“The Whitaker family encourages the health of our state. While we work to add stability to the financial health of our state, our family is focused on the balance that is achieved through healthy spirit, mind and body,” stated Elmer K. Whitaker, CEO at Whitaker Bank, in a release on the facility’s new name. “The YMCA shares this passion, so we are proud to contribute to the programs that will encourage each of us, as Kentuckians, to be our best.”
