Lexington, KY - This has been a whirlwind few weeks for the Feigel family. We were very blessed to host our daughter's wedding in June at the First United Methodist Church with a lovely reception at Spindletop Hall and a very Kentucky-themed rehearsal dinner at Tenlane Farm, thanks to our dear friends. Our June weather was more like August weather, but the groom's Minnesota family had a wonderful time visiting Lexington for the first time. Our guests came from 23 states and everyone left with rave reviews of our great city and all the unique sites that Lexington has to offer.
I'd also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to Allison Hallett who will be working with me as Jamie Bloyd leaves our office to await her new baby. I know you will enjoy working with Allison very much as she helps to address many of your questions and concerns through our office.
I'm very excited to see the Chevy Chase Re-Design Project move to the next phase. The project was bid for the official design team and Palmer Engineering will be working with us. A tremendous thank you to Steve Austin who volunteered his professional expertise to get us to this point. We will begin public meetings to discuss design elements very shortly and will keep everyone posted on meeting dates. Please sign up for our weekly electronic newsletter to get the most current information. Simply e-mail cfeigel@lexingtonky.gov to request addition to that distribution list. We are still on track to submit our project for a Transportation Enhancement grant and your participation is critical to that process.
The 2011 budget work sessions have been completed. Public meetings on the budget have been held, and we're working hard to address the most critical needs of our citizens as we continue to deal with significantly reduced revenues in this unprecedented economic climate. We are hopeful that our economy will improve over the next year and that we can restore some of the budget cuts that affect you the most. Public safety is a high priority and I will continue to stress the need for adequate law enforcement and fire protection. I will push for increases to our road resurfacing budget as our revenues improve, as I believe that ongoing maintenance is critical to the long term success of our roads. Unfortunately, our constrained budget required that we reduce the amount of mowing in our parks this summer. If you would like additional information regarding budget issues, please contact my office for more detail.
