Through Oct. 15 (street display). LexArts has resurrected the Horse Mania public art project, which puts over 100 horse statures decorated by local artists through the streets of Lexington, in time for the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, and this batch of life-size equine art is even more stunning and handsome than its precursor 10 years ago.
In this installment, Lexington school children also got into the act by painting 50 foals to accompany the 89 horse statues. The foals are on display at the city's six public library locations.
The horses hit the bricks mid-July and will be on display until Oct. 15. From Nov. 19 - Dec. 4 they will be on display at the Southern Lights Exhibition, and on Dec. 11 they will be auctioned off at the Keeneland Sales Arena. Proceeds from the auction will benefit LexArts' public art programs and non-profit charities throughout the region.
