Lexington, KY - This year's Fall Arts Preview is a little heftier than it has been in the past, thanks in large part to the flotilla of world-class performers descending on the area as part of the Alltech Fortnight Festival and the Spotlight Lexington festival - both held in tandem with the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. Certainly, these two series are welcome accompaniments to the already impressive assortment of entertainment all of our local organizations are boasting beginning this fall.
Along with these two festivals, you can see the sphere of influence the WEG has cast over many local organizations' forthcoming programming, with "the horse" making a cameo in many instances: the Lexington Children's Theatre's world premiere of "I Dedicate this Ride: The Making of Isaac Murphy," the Art Museum at the University of Kentucky's exhibit "Hoofbeats & Heartbeats: The Horse in American Art," the Morlan Gallery's exhibit "The Illustrious Horse: Kentucky Artists Respond to the Clara Peck Collection," as well as the hundred-plus festooned horse and foal statues scattered throughout town as part of LexArts' Horsemania 2010.
In the following pages, we have the schedules listed for over 20 local organizations -
theatres, galleries, musical groups, dance troupes and festivals -
for the coming year (or at least as far in advance that was readily available). We've also tried to distill the listings concisely for September and October options onto one calendar for quick reference -
a brief glance will affirm that you have some tough decisions to make on certain nights.
From under-the-radar offerings at the Boomslang festival to the formal and intimate programming at the Lexington Opera House to the enlightened exhibits at the Lexington Art League, there is something for any taste and preference happening in the coming months here in Lexington -
be sure to get your ticket early so you don't miss anything.
