Now in its fifth season of hosting a free weekly bluegrass music concert for all ages throughout the summer, Southland Jamboree is making short order of staking Lexington's claim as Bluegrass Capital of the World.
With hundreds of audience members crowding into the lawn adjacent to the Southland Bowling Alley parking lot, the series offers a unique opportunity for fans, who get to hear authentic bluegrass music once a week, as well as for the musicians, who get to perform before a large audience.
Sixteen weekly concerts are scheduled this year. Music, performed exclusively by local and regional bluegrass acts, lasts for about an hour, and then an informal open jam session takes place in the crowd -
when audience members can get a chance to play along with the scheduled act.
Concessions are available on site. Lawn chairs, blankets, children and musical instruments are encouraged.
