Sav’s Chill in the works to open in early July
A few weeks ago, as the short-lived carry-out hotdog cafe W.C. Weiners was closing up shop, Mamadou “Sav” Savane looked out at the building catercorner to his South Limestone restaurant, Sav’s Grill. He already had an idea for the vacant commercial space.

“Just like that, my instinct was saying ‘ice cream,’” Savane said. “The place is small, and ice cream could be perfect considering in this area there are no ice cream places at all.”
Savane consulted with his family about the potential ice cream shop, and they all agreed it was a good idea; Savane’s 18-year-old son, Bangaly, will run the business.
Savane said he hopes to have his new walk-up ice cream shop, Sav’s Chill, open by the first week of July after changes to the interior are complete. The store will have picnic tables on the sidewalk outside, but only standing room inside.
Along with planning to serve 24 different flavors of locally made Valentine’s Gourmet Ice Cream, Savane said Sav’s Chill will offer coffee products from Paris, Ky.-based CaffeMarco and handmade Kizito Cookies from Louisville.
Once open, Sav’s Chill will be open from noon - 10 p.m.
Savane opened Sav’s Grill (304 S. Limestone), which serves West African cuisine, in 2008.
