A Cage Cabaret: A celebration of the life and art of John Cage Natasha's Bistro, 112 Esplanade, 9 p.m., $10. From the venue website: “John Cage was one of the most important American cultural figures of the twentieth century. A composer, writer, artist, and social philosopher, Cage is best known for incorporating chance operations into his work in order to remove the ‘ego of the composer’ from the product. His tireless explorations of all media has inspired several generations of composers, artists, theater performers, and dancers.
To celebrate the centennial of Cage's birth (September 5, 1912), faculty and students of the UK School of Music will present a varied program of music by Cage and Erik Satie, involving voice, electronics, percussion, toy pianos, and more. In the spirit of Cage's belief that ‘everything we do is music, and everywhere is the best seat, the program will be presented in an informal cabaret-style setting, with strolling performers in addition to those on the stage. ... Net proceeds from this event will benefit the University of Kentucky School of Music.”
