Twenty-six students in Fayette County Public Schools are semifinalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. Some 16,000 academically talented high school seniors will now compete for more than $32 million in awards next spring.
Henry Clay High School students included in the group include: Philip Block, Lauren Duffy, Abraham Dutch, Macy Early, Vanessa Fu, Augustus Logsdon, Dylan Sarkisian, Anne Summers, Rui Sun and Wei Yang.
The remaining students to qualify are from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School.
About 90 percent of semifinalists generally advance, and more than half of those students will win scholarships underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., business organizations and universities. The scholars will be announced in four waves from April to July.
