Looking toward a warmer season, the Kenwick Neighborhood Association is soliciting volunteers for the installation and upkeep of a neighborhood community garden.
Made possible by funding from the 5th District council office and a donated plot of land from Victory Christian Church, the garden is still in the early planning stages, with more details to be established in the coming weeks and months.
Kenwick Neighborhood Association board member Sara Constantine said that the preliminary plan is for the garden to be primarily edible, utilizing raised beds.
While the call to neighborhood volunteers has seen a great response thus far, the project is still seeking more volunteers, who can contact Constantine at kenwickneighbors@gmail.com. She plans to announce a meeting for volunteers within the next week or two.
Later this month, the bimonthly Kenwick Neighborhood Association meeting will host special guest Della Scott of the Fayette County Extension Office, who will give a presentation on gardening for beginners, with a special focus on how to build raised beds. The meeting takes place at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 26, at the Kenwick Commnity Center (313 Owsley Ave.), and is open to all interested parties.
Keep your eyes out for more information on the project in the April issue of Chevy Chaser Magazine.
