In a message posted on Facebook, management for the dance club Art Bar on Euclid Avenue said they have reached an agreement to exclude controversial guest DJ Hunter Moore from their New Year’s Eve programming.
“Art Bar apologies to anyone who was offended by the booking of Hunter Moore by the event promotions company who booked our venue for (New Year’s Eve),” the post read. “Art Bar is banning the future booking of Hunter Moore and taking steps to regulate the booking of future performers brought in by the event promotion companies who book our venue.”
Moore was the founder of the now-shuttered pornographic website IsAnyOneUp,com, which allowed users to anonymously post scandalous, often nude, photos of themselves or others. Deemed a “revenge porn” site, because many of the submitted images were of intimate photos from relationships that ended poorly, Is Anyone Up and Moore drew the ire of many anti-bullying groups, as well as of the many people who appeared on the site without permission.
Last week a Facebook page, “No More Moore in Lexington,” was created as a venue for users to boycott the performance and voice their displeasure at Moore’s local appearance.
Initially, management from Art Bar said the show would go on unchanged due to contractual obligations.
“We’re proud of Art Bar for listening to their community and acting compassionately,” the page’s creator, Caleb Ritchie, posted on No More Moore in Lexington. “If you’ve had a negative opinion of them because of Moore’s show, we urge you to reconsider.”
