5th District Councilman Bill Farmer, Jr.
April 10, 2014 - Council is back from Spring Recess and while our regular meetings Tuesday were rescheduled to accommodate a welcome home to our Cats at Rupp Arena, that afternoon brought the Mayor’s Proposed Budget Address, followed by Council Work Session, and now the Council has begun to digest Mayor Gray’s plans for Fiscal Year 2015. I will discuss this further in the 5th District e-newsletter, and you can contact me at bfarmer@lexingtonky.gov if you wish to receive more detail from the 5th District Council Office.
I like others am quite concerned with the recent almost back-to-back robberies of the SuperAmerica on Winchester Road. As other such crimes have been recently solved, I know our Police are doing their best here too. Day or night be aware of your surroundings. If you see something out of the ordinary don't hesitate to call 911 or in non-emergency cases, (859) 258-3600 to make a report.
From the FY14 paving budget, the 5th District wound up with a surplus of approximately $260,000. We asked for your suggestions, and you answered. Expect to see activity in areas you asked to be treated. I thank you for your input.
The new year in essence began with the Mayor's Proposed Budget Address and now the Council has to make decisions as to what to approve, what to add or what to change by mid June for fiscal year 2015, which begins July first. Many hopes, dreams and needs will be boiled down to try and fit into this one plan.
Columbia Gas through the Fishel Company may be finishing its meter addition work on Euclid Avenue moving the Pedestrian Improvement Plan for the area closer to its start date. Meetings with some property owners are still to be had and that work product along with answers to all of our questions will all follow before any actual work begins.
If you currently or recently have had a problem with a barking dog, I'm interested. If you have please e-mail me the particulars as you like. As with the Residential Parking Permit Program, updates and changes may be in order there too.
I’m proud of the efforts our basketball team put forth over the NCAA Championship weekend and I’m sure you are too. Go Cats! Donut Days in Chevy Chase isn't open quite yet but with Spring Break and Final Four over, can sweet treats in Chevy Chase be far behind? I say no, not far off at all!
