Renovation stages for Kroger on Euclid Avenue are now reaching the home stretch. On Tuesday, the company announced that the grocery store reopens on Jan. 22 at 8 a.m. Kroger officials also expect the nearby wine and spirits shop to open that day, depending on the arrival of the state license.
The neighborhood customers have anticipated this day since the closing of the store in March. John Calipari, the University of Kentucky men’s basketball coach and a member of the Lexington community, will be welcoming everyone by cutting the ribbon.
The 86,000-square-foot store stands apart from any other Kroger in the nation, featuring a rooftop parking lot for 125 cars, elevators to transport customers to and from the parking area, a heated ramp to prevent icing, and underground food prep and storage facilities. Specialty departments will include a walk-in beer cave, a sushi bar, a specialty cheese Shop, a Nature’s Market health food section, a drive-thru pharmacy and much more.
The Euclid Kroger will also include custom murals by local Lexington artists, and a café area complete with TVs and of course, wi-fi.
“The Kroger team is proud to be part of the Chevy Chase and University of Kentucky community; the new store was designed specifically for this unique location,” said Tim McGurk, Kroger’s public affairs manager, in a press release. “We sincerely thank our customers and neighbors for their patience during the construction.”
