Lexington-based artist Ken Morris, who this magazine profiled in August of last year, passed away on February 28, 2015, less than three months after receiving a cancer diagnosis. His family will host a graveside service Georgetown, Ky., on Saturday, April 25.
Morris's children said they wanted to wait until the weather warmed up a bit, as Morris, who spent much of his time in Key West, Fl., hated the cold weather.
"Dad hated the cold weather," said Morris's son Wade, who lived in the Keys with his father for around a year. "He loved Kentucky but he did not enjoy the cold weather part of it."

Taking cues from his late friend and fellow Kentucky artist Henry Faulkner, Morris was a prolific oil painter specializing in whimsical, fantastical scenes. Among his subjects was Smiley Pete, the popular Lexington dog that served as the namesake for this magazine's parent company.
Morris is survived by four children, Audra, Sonja (Caywood), Wade and Shelley (Frost), and six grandchildren, Adam, Rusty, Tameran, Orin, Kenlea and Laeken. The service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at the Georgetown Cemetery and is open to anyone that would like to be there.
