"BLACK LIVES MATTER: 1619 TO NOW"
A Documentary Drama curated by UK Faculty Artists & Scholars
Feb. 24 – 27, 2022
Black Lives Matter: 1619 to Now has been developed by University of Kentucky Faculty Artists & Scholars and is based on and inspired by the book "Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America: 1619-2019", edited by Ibram X. Kendi (author of "How To Be An Antiracist") and Keisha N. Blain (author of "Set The World on Fire"). The play tells the story of a group of UK students, enrolled in a Staging History theater course, who are creating a documentary drama about the idea of “Black Lives Matter” down through the centuries. The Department of Theatre and Dance aims to provide our audience of students, faculty, staff, and community members with a thoughtful, insightful, factually accurate, and emotionally compelling, rendering of American history that places the Black Lives Matter movement of the past 10 years in its proper context in a powerful live documentary drama.
