Two of Lexington’s most dynamic theatre organizations, Bluegrass Opera and Balagula Theatre, join forces to mount a newly revised script of Alfred Uhry’s Lovemusik.
Written by Pulitzer-, Oscar-, and Tony-winner Alfred Uhry (“Driving Miss Daisy”) and featuring Kurt Weill’s original music (“Speak Low”, “September Song”, and “Surabaya Johnny”, amongst many other songs), Lovemusik tells the unusual love story of Weill, a brilliant composer, and his wild muse, actress Lotte Lenya, during the 1930s and 40s as they flee Nazi Germany and establish themselves as giants of the American stage.
Not professionally produced since its Broadway run, The Bluegrass Opera will partner with Balagula Theatre for this unique joint production, and will welcome Mr. Uhry and representatives from the Harold Prince Organization to Lexington, as they present the first professional run ever of the work using Uhry’s newly revised script.
