The indie rock quartet, based in Lexington KY, started in 2015 as a solo project of Gideon Maki (vocals/guitar), gradually gaining members and honing their sound. The unique musical backgrounds of the members mix up an eclectic blend of influences, which is a boon for the listener. Interweaving vocals, from Maki and Elizabeth Varnado (vocals/violin/guitar), present approachable lyrics that explore the lighter and darker aspects of life and love, memory and friendship. Dynamic guitar licks catch the ear while swelling synths, moody violin, and intricate rhythms (Paul Varnado, bass/synth; Zachary Martin, drums) color the background. Lylak’s third EP, Leave it to Light, set to release in 2019, showcases the benefit of letting disparate ideas simmer and steep to eventually meld together in the confidence of musical camaraderie.

Josiah Letchworth is a singer-songwriter raised in Arkansas and living in Kentucky. His music is an artful blend of the folk, country, and blues traditions.
Through his songs, Josiah reports on the human experience with lyrics that range from the philosophical to the whimsical. He leads the audience on an emotional journey through contemplative ballads and toe-tapping tunes.
His vocals dovetail with intricate guitar lines. His piano gives a nod to honky-tonk and ragtime styles. His harmonica paints in broad strokes outside the lines.
Josiah’s debut album, Gone to Harbor, is a collection of self-produced songs that take a symphonic approach to the folk tradition – “an orchestra in overalls”. Josiah’s current project, New Pigeon, is a video series of songs recorded live throughout America’s parks.
