Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Freedom March and Downtown Celebration
Heritage Hall in the Lexington Convention Center will host a free event celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The celebration will begin with a Freedom March at 10 a.m. (participants should line up inside the corridor of downtown Lexington Center / Heritage Hall on West Main Street starting at 9 a.m. ).
The march will be followed by a Commemorative Program at 11 a.m. in Heritage Hall featuring a keynote by minister and civil rights advocate, Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, the Senior Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, who has spent the last two decades practicing and preaching a Black theology that unapologetically calls attention to the problems of mass incarceration, environmental justice and economic inequality.
Following the program will be a showing of “Race – The Jesse Owens Story” at the Kentucky Theater, located at 214 East Main Street at 2:30 p.m. courtesy of One World Films.
