WoodSongs: Samantha Fish/ Terry “Harmonica” Bean
SAMANTHA FISH is one of the most brilliant, exciting performers of the blues in the world. Only into her mid-20s she already shared the stage with well-established to the legendary artists from Tab Benoit and Johnny Lang to Buddy Guy. All that ambition and passion paid off in 2012 when Samantha won a Blues Music Award for Best New Artist Debut. Her latest is ‘Wild Heart’ on Ruf Records and was produced by Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars.
TERRY “HARMONICA” BEAN is one of Mississippi’s hidden treasures: a contemporary hill country bluesman, lifelong resident of Pontotoc, who has created his own distinctive version of the harp-blowing, guitar-grooving one-man band. Although he’s long past the dues-paying stage, Bean has played with some of the most important bluesmen to come out of Mississippi in the past two decades. Bean is also a generous and spirited teacher and is consciously dedicated to “keeping alive” older styles of blues. Since 2002 he has released six self-produced CDs that document both his band and solo performances.
